My Teaching Binder Video Tutorials!

If you're wondering why I am posting random video tutorials on my blog, well, it's because my file size was a little TOO LARGE for TpT and I had to put these puppies somewhere...and what better place than my blog?!

Hopefully you're watching these videos because you are now a PROUD owner of one of my teaching binders!  Congratulations!!  If you're not, what are you waiting for?!  You're a teacher, so I know organization is a huge priority to both your sanity and the way that you simply run your classroom. :) Seriously, my friends, I am in LOVE with them.  I started creating them in the spring of 2013.  I currently have 8 themes in all, but I am kind of partial to my newest one!  I am in the process of putting all of these great updates into my other 7 binders.  It is a HUGE undertaking, as I am literally picking apart each file and completely redoing my editable files.  However, it's worth it in the it always is. :)

Without further ado, I invite you to watch these videos in the attempt to help you with the use of your binder.  I offer my own personal suggestions, tips, and hints in the videos, which stemmed from hundreds of conversations with other teachers just like you.  However, if you have any questions at all, even after watching the videos, simply contact me and I'll be sure to get right back to you with an answer.

Thanks a bunch and I wish you a WONDERFUL upcoming year of organization!

Video #1: This is a product overview that's full of my own personal tips and suggestions.  PLEASE note that I created this video using my Bright Colors and Buttons binder.  The information truly applies to each of my binders, as the formatting is basically the same, except for slight variations in text box placement in my editable files.

Video #2: This video will take you through my grade book template that I created in Excel. Some people are a little intimidated by this program because they don't use it all of the time.  My goal was to show you just how easy it is to work with...easy peasy!!

Video #3: This video takes you through my Weekly Planner.  Again, I take you through the steps that you would take to customize your planner for your needs.  I show you how this is truly 100% editable and able to be customized for your specific needs.

I hope that these videos helped to answer any questions that you may have had.  If not, feel free to get in touch with me and I'll help you through any further questions that you may have!

Thanks a BUNCH!

Math Meets Astronomy in Room 309

Every now and then certain ideas come to us as teachers that we silently say to ourselves, "That's brilliant!!"  It doesn't happen as often as I'd like, but EVERY now and does!  I have done this with my students a couple of times over the years and it has really worked out so well each time. :)  I call it "Constellation Math."

Overall, it's super simple and extremely effective lesson in teaching angles to your kiddos! :)

First, find, print, and enlarge the size of a bunch of constellations.  I made sure to have a variety that ranged from simple to complex, so that I could maintain a basic level for my struggling students, while still challenging my more advanced students. :)

Next, I had the students choose a constellation of their choice and trace it with a black Sharpie onto white construction paper.  We added some "stars" to each angle, named each, and then got to work with our protractors. :)

I started with a whole group demonstration on my Smart Board, using my HoverCam for a super close look at the process, then worked in small groups to get them started.  I would say that 85% of my students dug right in and had no problems at all!  10% of them needed a little more guidance, then found independent success, and about 5% needed one-on-one support throughout the project.

In the end...they all practiced, perfected, and learned a little more about angles!  Mission. Accomplished. All the while...they're learning about the constellations...double score!  Now that's a good lesson!

I'm linking up this week with my friend Meg from "The Teacher Studio."  Stop by for some more great go-to lesson ideas!

Have a great one you guys!

Hocus Pocus Product Reveals!

We all know teachers are magic, but it seems that this time of year, our magical powers need a little extra umph and a maybe even an ABRACADABRA to get us to that last day of school!  So, I teamed up with some amazing intermediate bloggers to create some magic of our own!  You may recall that a couple of weeks ago, we joined forces to swap some of our favorite resources, armed with the goal of putting a little extra magic in our lessons and keeping our students engaged during these final weeks of the school year.

As promised, we’re all back today with Part 2 of our blog hop giveaway – the big reveal – viola!

During this "magical" swap, I was able to swap resources with the fabulous Jennifer Findley!  I tested out her awesome Math Boards and the results were just as I had suspected they would be!  My kids were ENGAGED and ACTIVELY learning with one another.  I heard great discussions throughout my classroom, geared toward how to approach each task.

The ease of use is absolutely wonderful!  All that you have to do is print and go!  I chose to work with Jennifer's colored-option boards, so I printed them and allowed my kiddos to choose a set of cards of their choice.  She also gives the option of printing in black and white, which I can totally appreciate!

There are so many ways that you could approach her Math Boards; whole group. small group, partners, individual center work, and more!  I decided that since it was the first time my students had seen the cards that they would feel a little more confident with some extra support from a buddy, which is exactly what I did when I partnered them together.

So what do you need?  Jennifer suggests using a deck of cards, but taking out the 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace, and Joker cards.  If you don't have a deck of cards, she includes some printable number cards for no worries!  The kids will interact with the cards during various tasks, whether it be to create a decimal, or a number problem.  This was a really enjoyable activity for my students!  So, do you wanna see how things went?  Okay, take a look for yourself! :)

So, would I recommend this resource...YES!!!  Thank you, Jennifer, for allowing me to give it a shot with my kiddos. :)
